Introduction

One of the important applications of biotechnology is in food industry area. At the present, the production of functional foods and food supplements aiming elevation of food quality and health by the means of development and production of fermented foods, enzymes, probiotics, preiotics, microalgae, etc has a dynamic marketing worldwide. In this path, Food biotechnology Institute (Tabriz) was established in 2005 on a field of 5000 square meters, with substratum of 3100 square meters containing laboratories and official spaces and a collection of greenhouses surveying 860 square meters. Since the provinces under supervision of this institute is among the food industry prone areas of the country, the projects in three sections of food industry, tissue culture and genomics is concentrated on the basis of food biotechnology.
